Simple Apple Tart

This easy apple tart recipe makes a fancy looking dessert with little time and effort.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ready made refrigerator pie crust
  • 4 - 6 apples
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar optional

Instructions
 

  • Place the pie crust in a greased pan.
  • Crimp edges and poke holes in the bottom with a fork.
  • Refrigerate while cutting apples.
  • Cut apples into quarters.
  • Peel the skin and remove the core and seeds.
  • Use a mandolin to create very thin slices.
  • Squeeze some lemon juice (1/2 a lemon) over apple slices.
  • Arrange apple slices all over the pie crust.
  • In a small bowl combine melted butter with cinnamon.
  • Pour cinnamon butter mixture all over apples.
  • Sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  • Bake for 1 hour in a 350 degree oven.
  • Check around 30-40 to see if the edges are getting too brown. If so, cover edges with a bit of foil for the remainder of the time.
  • Cool and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

You can use any kind of apple you want or a mix of apples.
If you have a favorite pie crust recipe feel free to use it instead of the store bought variety.
If you don't have a mandolin you can try cutting very thin slices of apples with a sharp knife.
