Baked Beans Recipe from Scratch

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups dried navy beans 16 oz bag soaked in water overnight
  • 7-9 pieces of precooked bacon chopped
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1/4 cup dijon mustard
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cups water

Instructions
 

  • Drain the beans that have soaked overnight and place them in a large pot. Cover with fresh water and simmer for 1 hour.
  • While the beans are simmering saute the bacon and onions in a Dutch oven until the onions are soft and translucent about 5 minutes.
  • Add ketchup, brown sugar, honey, mustard, vinegar, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until combined.
  • Drain the beans after an hour and add them to the Dutch oven mixture.
  • Add 3 cups of water or more until it covers the beans.
  • Stir, cover with a lid and bake in a 375 degree oven for 3-4 hours until the beans are soft.
  • Serve immediately or store in a well-sealed container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
