Try this easy scone recipe that's made with plain flour and other everyday ingredients. You might be surprised at how well they turn out with such little effort.
Whisk to combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
Add cut up butter using a pastry cutter or two forks to cut in butter until it has a crumbly texture
Add one large egg and milk into the mixture. Stir until just combined.
Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface. (it will be sticky)
Fold the dough over onto itself just a couple of times.
Roll out the dough to an inch thick.
Use a 2 inch cutter dipped in flour each time to cut out scones.
Press the cutter straight down into the dough and lift out the dough.
Place each scone on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
Allow them to cool slightly before moving to a wire rack.
Make a lemon glaze by combining powdered sugar and lemon juice.
Stir until thick but also pourable.
Drizzle glaze over the cooled scones.
