How to Make a Pineapple Welcome Sign

Learn how to make this DIY welcome sign to greet all those who come into your home.

Equipment

  • Computer
  • Printer
  • Paintbrush

Materials

  • Old or thrifted painting
  • black spray paint
  • white chalk
  • pencil
  • gold metallic paint
  • green craft paint
  • black sharpie marker

Instructions

  • Find or purchase an old painting.
  • Cover the top and sides with painter's tape and spray paint the entire front black.
  • Print out the graphic of the pineapple and the word Welcome above.
  • Cover the back of the image with white chalk and place it chalk side down on the painting.
  • Tape the images in place on the front of the black painting.
  • Trace over the image with a pencil pressing firmly.
  • Repeat with the "welcome" image.
  • Fill in the body of the pineapple and the word "welcome" with gold metallic paint.
  • Fill in the leaf area with green paint.
  • Draw a few lines in the leaves for texture with a black sharpie marker if desired.
  • Paint the edge of the frame with more gold paint if desired.
  • Once dry remove any excess chalk with a damp towel.

Notes

If you can't find an old painting you could use a blank canvas from the craft or art supply store.
This sign can be hung like a wreath in entryways or on your front porch as long as it is covered.
You could also spray some polyurethane as a sealer for protection if you want but I did not. Just make sure that the picture has had a day or two to dry completely and don't spray too close.
