Instructions

  • Brush gel stain over the wood blocks.
  • Paint the longer wood pieces with black craft paint.
  • Print out the labels and numbers.
  • Once dry, cut "days until" and "Christmas" to size and glue them to the front edge of the black painted wood pieces.
  • Once dry apply another coat of mod podge on top.
  • Cut out the numbers. Use 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for one block. For the second block use 0,1, 2, 6, 7, and 8. Note: You will use the 6 upsidedown for 9 on the appropriate day.
  • Rub white chalk on the back of each number.
  • Then center it on a block side and trace over the number with a pencil.
  • Remove the paper and fill in with a black Sharpie.
  • When you are finished tracing the numbers you can wipe down any excess chalk with a rag.
  • Use a wood oil or a wipe on or spray poly to protect the blocks if desired.

Notes

Numbering the Blocks
Make sure that you trace each number in the center of the blocks so that they line up well when they are next to each other. Also, this will help when you use the number "6" as a "9."  Use 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for one block. For the second block use 0,1, 2, 6, 7, and 8.
Variations:
  • Use can use different size blocks and scrap wood. However, you may need to adjust the size of the printables to fit.
  • Leave the blocks natural or paint/stain them in a different color.
  • Cut out and glue on the numbers or use a stencil.
  • Trace the "days until" and "Christmas" labels and paint or fill them in with a white paint pen.
