Natural Christmas Wreath and Swag Tutorials to Adorn Your Home

Bring the beauty of nature indoors with this natural Christmas wreath and swag, made with fresh berries, greenery and branches from your own backyard.

Today's post is all about creating a natural Christmas wreath and swag from fresh greens and berries that you can gather at home or your local nursery.

    Natural Christmas wreath twig base.

It all started with a few branches I was trimming from our magnolia tree. Three branches were wired together to create one large thin wreath. I've made many Christmas wreaths using wire frames and fresh greenery before, but I wanted something more modern, and a little more minimal this year. Actually, we ordered a new front door which would have been perfect for this wreath. However, it came in damaged so we have to wait for a new one.

I also saved a branch to make a swag to hang above the mantel in our family room.

Natural Christmas wreath cedar to cover wires.

A few branches of cedar were added first to cover all the floral wire. I prefer paddle wire for this kind of project. It really helps obtain a firm grip and tight hold of the greens.

The bottom center is the highlight of this simple wreath with more greens including, boxwood and white pine, a few berries and a couple of pine cones. It's topped off with a pretty bow made with gold ribbon.

    Natural Christmas swag.

The swag was created using the same materials, and the added charm of three tiny salt dough stars I made when creating the mantel garland.

It does a great job of filling the awkward space between the mantel and the ceiling.

Don't have access to any branches for this wreath? Consider trying a large quilting hoop, or even a thick wire which would also work for the swag. You might even want to try using simple wire clothes hangers. I used some to make a dried hydrangea wreath a couple of years ago. The biggest challenge would be making sure the frame is stable enough to hold the greens. The hydrangea blooms are very light, but you could experiment with the idea. An easy cost efficient and beautiful way to decorate your home during the holidays.
