Three cheddar and chive biscuits on a plate.

Chives are super easy to grow in the garden and they come back year after year. One way to use them is to add them to dough, in this case, biscuits. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or as a side dish.

Large mixing bowl with flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

How to Make Cheddar & Chive Biscuits

Step 1: Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl.

    Cut up cubes of butter.

Step 2: Cut up cold butter into small pieces.

Step 3: Use a pastry cutter or 2 forks to cut in the butter. It should have the texture of oatmeal.

Step 4: Add the shredded cheddar cheese and chives and mix together.

    Biscuit dough on floured surface.

Step 6: Prepare the dough by folding it in half and pressing it together. Then turn it and fold it again. Fold and press one more time.

    Note:

Keep a little pile of flour handy at the side to add to the dough, the rolling pin, or the biscuit cutter as needed.

Step 7: Roll out the dough and cut out as many biscuits as possible. Make sure the biscuit cutter is dipped into flour and press it into the dough, then pull it out. Do not rotate or twist it.

Step 8: Place the cut out biscuits onto a parchment lined baking sheet or a greased baking sheet.

Step 9: Gather the remaining dough scraps together and roll them out. Then cut out more biscuits. Continue until you use up all the dough.

    Baked biscuits from the oven.

Step 10: Bake the biscuits for 15 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Step 11: Remove the biscuits from the oven and garnish by brushing on a little melted butter and a sprinkle of chives.
