DIY Christmas village wreath on a brown front door.

Enjoy making this fun and festive Christmas village wreath with wooden houses and bottle brush trees to adorn your front door or mantel.

Christmas village wreath on an faux evergreen wreath base.

I think Christmas villages are so quaint. A couple of years ago I made a Christmas Village for my mantel. This year it's a wreath.

You may have seen something similar on Martha Stewart or Anthropologie which has many mini houses and faux snow. However, this one has my own take that's a simpler yet still fun Christmas wreath.

Supplies for the Christmas village wreath including, wooden houses, bottle brush trees, white paint, diffuser reeds, hot glue gun, glue stick and a sponge brush.

How to Make a Christmas Village Wreath

    Supplies

    • Artificial Evergreen Wreath Base
    • Wooden Houses
    • Bottle Brush Trees
    • Wooden Sticks/Diffuser Reeds or Skewers
    • White Craft Paint
    • Ribbon optional
    • Floral Wire
    • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
    • Scissors
    • Paintbrush

Plate with watered down white paint a few wooden houses white washed and a partially painted house with a sponge paintbrush.

Step 1. Start by white washing one side of the houses. You can do this by watering down white craft paint.

Note: You can leave them natural or stain/paint them any color.

The back side of a wooden house with two reeds hot glued to each side.

Step 2. Once the houses have dried hot glue a reed or skewer on each side of the back of the houses with hot glue leaving about 1 inch below as shown in the image above.

Five wooden houses placed on a faux evergreen wreath.

Step 3. Organize the placement of the houses on the wreath.

Close up image of a faux evergreen wreath branch being wrapped around the glue on reeds of the wooden house.

Step 4. Wrap some of the wreath branches around the bottom of the reeds/skewers to hold them in place.

The wreath with all houses in place.

If desired you could also add a bit of hot glue to the backs of the houses to further secure them in place.

Three tall bottle brush trees wrapped and/or glued to the back of the center houses.

Step 5. Attach three large bottle brush trees behind the center houses at the bottom of the wreath. Use the wrapping of the branches at the bottom of the trees and hot glue if needed to secure them in place.

Other sized bottle brush trees attached to the wreath at different spots around the houses.

Step 6. Add more bottle brush trees at different places around the wreath. Again, attach them by wrapping the base or gluing them to the wreath.

Note: Lean the wreath against a box while you work to give you a better angle of what you are working on.

The Christmas village wreath hung on a brown front door.

Hang this beauty on your front door or above your living room mantel.

A burlap ribbon is tied to the top of the Christmas village wreath hanging on a white door.

You could also add a pretty bow on top. I think it's a really fun DIY and will be a great addition to my other Christmas decorations this year.

Learn how to make a unique Christmas village wreath with wood houses and bottle brush tree with this step by step tutorial.
    Prep Time30 minutes mins
    Active Time40 minutes mins
Total Time1 hour hr 10 minutes mins

    • Scissors
    • Paint Brush

    Materials

    • 1 18 inch Artificial Evergreen Wreath Base
    • Wooden Houses
    • Bottle Brush Trees
    • Wooden Sticks/Diffuser Reeds or Skewers
    • White Craft Paint
    • Ribbon optional
    • Floral Wire

    Instructions

    • White wash one side of the houses with watered down white craft paint.
    • Once they have dried hot glue a reed/skewer/stick to each side of the back of each house.
    • Trim the sticks to about 1 inch below the bottom of the house.
    • Wrap the branches from the wreath around the bottoms of the sticks.
    • Wrap branches and/or hot glue the large trees behind the back of the center of the houses on the bottom.
    • Wrap branches around and/or hot glue the other bottle brushes around and between the houses.
    • Add a decorative bow at the top if desired.
    • Hang and check for spots where you may need to add some hot glue to firmly secure the houses or trees.

    Notes

You can find smaller blocks at the dollar tree. They should work though you may need to adjust the size of the numbers to fit or make your own.
I reused an old wreath and bottle brush trees from other projects but you can easily find them at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels.
You can leave the houses in their natural wood state instead of white-washing them. Or you could stain or paint them in any color you wish.
