DIY Fall Wreath with White Pumpkins

    by Patti Estep · Sep 15, 2025

Try this DIY fall wreath with white pumpkins craft that you can hang on your front door at the beginning of fall and leave up until Christmas.

Flat back planter filled with white pumpkins and faux fall florals.

A new season means a wreath for the front door. Fall is here, and as I was cleaning out one of my flower planters, I thought it would make a beautiful wreath-like statement on our front door.

I'm using fall florals from my craft stash, but you can easily find them at craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Dollar Tree. Usually they have them on sale around this time of year too.

    Supplies

    • Paintbrush
    • Wire Cutters
    • Wall Planter
    • Variety of Faux White Pumpkins
    • Floral Foam
    • Wooden Skewers
    • Black Craft Paint
    • Fall Florals, including flowers, berries, and greenery

    DIY Fall Wreath/Planter Tutorial

Step 1. Paint some wooden skewers black. The dark color will blend in like a shadow, even if it shows a little in the arrangement.

Inserting a black wooden skewer into a faux mini pumpkin in the bottom center area.

Step 2. The pointed end of the skewer can easily be inserted into the bottom center of a faux pumpkin. This will give you the ability to set the pumpkins at different levels and heights in the planter.

Step 3. Fill the planter with floral foam. If you don't have any foam, you could try inserting the florals and skewers directly into the leftover soil. However, I removed the soil and reused foam from a past project.

The planter partially filled with red berries, fall daisies, and other fall florals.

Step 4. Set the planter on a chair and start inserting flowers, berries, and other fall colored foliage. If you can, place some of them cascading down the front and/or sides like the red berries above. I think this gives the project an interesting free flowing look. However, do not hesitate to give it your own personal style.

Note: You could use a hot glue gun to permanently add the materials, but it's not necessary if you have any kind of protection where you are placing your wreath.

Step 5. Next, add the pumpkins in varying heights throughout the planter. Continue to add more florals until you get a look you like.

Step 6. Hang your creation and take a few moments to adjust the florals and pumpkins and/or add additional plant material if needed.

This DIY Fall Wreath, aka door planter, is a great burst of autumn color for our front door. To keep it the "feature," I decided to place a wreath wrapped with berries and a large white pumpkin in each of my side pots to keep it simple and reflect back on the door's beauty.
