An emergency candle holder kit can be put together with just a few simple supplies. Stash a few away for easy use when the power goes out.
Even though there are underground utilities where we live our power used to go out all the time. We have various flashlights and decorative candles to help light the way. However, often the batteries are dead or the candles are just not the best for the situation.
So I thought it would be nice to stash a few of these emergency candle holder kits for easy access the next time we lose our electricity.

Supplies
How to Make an Emergency Candle Holder
You can find emergency candles at the dollar store. These are about .75 inches wide and fit inside a 3/4 inch plastic coupling that you can find in the plumbing aisle of any hardware store or big box store for around a dollar.
I'm using E6000 glue because it's great for adhering plastic to metal.
Just run a bead of glue to one of the edges.

Then place it in the middle of the underside of the mason jar lid.
Add extra candles and a box of matches to the mason jar. Then flip the lid so that the coupling is inside for tucking away when not in use.
Safety Note:
Always use caution when dealing with candles. Never leave the candle burning unattended. Make sure the candle is set on a sturdy surface away from anything that can catch fire. Keep them out of children's reach.
Then when you need it all you have to do is flip the lid and stick a candle in it.
Pretty neat, huh?
Emergency Candle Holder Tutorial
Equipment
Materials
- Quart Mason Jar
- Plastic coupling just big enough to fit your candle
- Emergency Candles
- Small Box of Matches
- E6000 Glue
Instructions
- Place a line of glue on the bottom of the coupling.
- Set it in the middle of the underside of the mason jar lid.
- Allow to set up.
- Place several candles and a small box of matches in the mason jar.
- Then screw on the lid and cap with the coupling inside.
- When ready to use flip the lid upside down and place a candle in the coupling.
- Screw the lid in place and light the candle.
- Carry the lit candle around as needed.

Thanks Patti, we have a winter emergency box in our truck (northern Canada, here). My candles have been tossed around in a bag with a candle holder and look rather tatty. Your idea is so much better!

Patty, I made these same emergency jars but painted power outage scenes on them and glued a small sandpaper scratch plate under lid, no holder. Guess I've got to do some with the holder now!!
