These DIY twine ornaments are super easy and inexpensive to create. They add a beautiful natural look with a bit of sparkle to your tree.

There's something about twine that I really like. Its texture and neutral color make it a great option for a rustic looking ornament with a bit of sparkle.

How to Make DIY Twine Ball Ornaments

This Christmas craft is great for anyone with easy steps to create a simple ornament for gift giving or to add your own holiday decor.

    What You'll Need

    • Thin Twine/Jute
    • Water balloons
    • Mod Podge, Tacky glue, or white glue
    • Glitter
    • Paper plate
    • Ornament hangers
    • Scissors
    • Large pin or needle
A small orange balloon wrapped in twine.

    1. Blow up a water balloon into a round shape. Water balloons are nice and small making them a good choice for this craft.

    2. Then wrap the twine all around the balloon crisscrossing the twine to cover most of the balloon.

    3. Cover the entire ball with mod podge. You could also use white glue.

If part of the balloon is still inside you can use the pin or a needle to pick it out.

How to Use Twine Ball Ornaments

These rustic Christmas ornaments would be a beautiful way to decorate your living room coffee table set in a bowl as shown above.

You could also bag a few up and give them out as gifts.

However, ultimately I like them best hung on the Christmas tree.

Just a little sparkle with a nice neutral color. Something anyone (even the kids) can easily make this Christmas season.

    Equipment

    • scissors
    • Large pin
    • Sponge brush

    Materials

    • Twine
    • Water balloons
    • Mod Podge tacky glue or white glue
    • Glitter
    • Paper plate
    • Ornament hangers

    Instructions

    • Blow up a water balloon into the shape of a small ball.
    • Wrap twine all around it, covering most of the ball.
    • Apply mod podge or white glue all over the twine.
    • Pour glitter all over the twine.
    • Set the twine covered balloon on some parchment or wax paper to dry.
    • Once dry hold on to the top of the balloon and use a pin to pop it.
    • Pull out the balloon.
    • Thread an ornament hanger through the twine ball and hang it on your Christmas tree.
    • Or set several balls in a bowl and place them somewhere in your home.

    Notes

You can use your hands to mold the ball a little after you put the glue on it.
You can use the pin to pick out pieces of balloon left inside and poke out any glue that is covering open areas.
I have not tried it yet but you could try glitter mod podge and skip a step.
If you like this idea but don't have any twine you could try making it with yarn.
