Learn how to take an old pair of jeans and turn them into a handy pocket organizer for your office, craft room, or any place you need quick access to supplies.

I'm a jeans girl, and I go through them all the time. Often, they are not worth donating to charity, so I like to make things from the denim material.
This is one of those easy sewing projects. Great for any beginner sewer or anyone who can sew a straight stitch. The denim works great because, like canvas or heavy cotton, it's very sturdy.

Making the Pocket Organizer
Step 1. Cut out the pockets. Then cut two rectangles from the legs that are long enough to accommodate the pockets.

Step 2. Pin the backing pieces together with right sides facing.

Step 3. Sew the sides and bottom with 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving the top open.

Step 4. Clip the corners on the bottom.

Step 5. Make two hanging tabs or straps with two pieces of the jean fabric, 2 x 4 inches long.

Step 6. Fold each strap piece in half lengthwise, (right sides facing) and sew close to the edge. Then turn them right side out and press with the seam in the back.

Step 6. Turn under 1/4 inch of the top raw edge of the backing fabric and press. Then pin the straps inside after slipping the D-rings on and folding them in half. (see image above)
Step 7. Pin the pockets on top, leaving room for supplies between the two pockets.

Step 8. Sew a 1/4 inch top seam all along the perimeter of the pocket organizer, encasing the straps. Then sew the pockets on, following the inside seam of the pocket on the sides and bottom, leaving the top open.

Step 9. Hang the organizer from nails or command hooks using the D-rings.
Place any tools or supplies you want easy access to in the pockets and enjoy.
