    Hanging Door Basket for Fall

Learn how to create this easy front door basket for fall that uses a sunflower theme. Made with faux flowers and berries for a lasting decoration you can make in minutes.

Brown latticed basket with sunflowers and fall berries.

Today I have a super simple front door basket for fall. I'm using sunflowers as the theme. They are reminiscent of summer however, I think their warm colors work equally great for fall.

Brown weaved basket with hanger in the back.

Any kind of fall hanging basket will do. I picked up this one at Hobby Lobby. It already has a handle or hanger in the back. However, you could add some wire and make a hanger to just about any basket.  Just make sure that it has a flat back so that it will lay nicely against the door.

Brown weaved basket, a block of floral foam and a serrated knife.

Next, add some floral foam to the bottom of the basket. You'll need to cut it to fit into the basket. An old serrated steak knife is perfect for this. You can buy floral foam at the dollar store or any craft store. However, you could use other materials, like crumpled newspapers, plastic bags, or other leftover packing materials.

To create a floral arrangement inside start with the back. This stem of bittersweet is gorgeous and looks great for fall.

Next, start adding in the sunflower blooms. Start with the larger and taller ones first. Followed by smaller and shorter floral stems.

Then add a few more berry stems and/or greenery in between and on the sides.

Finally, hang your basket on a door hook and see how it looks. You should be able to tweak it a bit to make it just right.

It's a beautiful alternative to a traditional wreath don't you think?

You could take it a little further with another embellishment such as a pretty ribbon for a bow, other foliage, or other faux florals in autumn colors.

A large black planter with rudbeckia flowers, mum and sweet potato vine surrounded by faux pumpkins in clay pots.

For the rest of the fall porch, I planted some rudbeckia 'Sunbeat' flowers and a smaller pot of mums. I kept the chartreuse sweet potato vine from my summer flowers and used the other clay pots to hold a few neutral faux pumpkins.

I plan on planting the rudbeckia in the garden just before it gets too cold as they are a nice perennial that should come back in the spring/summer.

A fall colored garland with sunflowers borders the door and a metal sunflower is set on the self to complete the look.

Now we are all set for fall and I hope the sunflowers bring a smile to the face of all who enter.
