    Easy Pepperoni Rolls Recipe

    by Patti Estep · Jun 7, 2024

Twelve pepperoni rolls on a cooling rack.
Empty muffin tin over baked pepperoni rolls in same muffin tin.

This pepperoni rolls recipe uses frozen pizza dough as the base for an easy and tasty appetizer, party food, or meal everyone will love.

Three pepperoni rolls on a plate with one cut in half.

My friends from West Virginia always bring pepperoni rolls when they visit. These are more of a bread roll with pepperoni and cheese inside. Apparently, West Virginia pepperoni rolls are a thing.

I thought about trying to make some but then we went to a local Italian restaurant and had their pepperoni rolls. They were very good and more of a savory pinwheel. For some reason they seemed more accessible to me so that's what I made.

Supplies for pepperoni rolls including a muffin tin, melted butter, pepperoni, cheeses, garlic salt and pizza dough.

    How to Make Pepperoni Rolls

    Ingredients

    • frozen pizza dough thawed
    • parmesan cheese
    • sandwich pepperoni slices
    • shredded mozzarella cheese
    • shredded provolone cheese
    • butter
    • garlic salt
    • olive oil or other vegetable oil
Pizza dough rolled out into a rectangle with olive oil and parmesan cheese on top.

Step 1: Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangular shape. Then brush on olive oil and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.

Pizza dough topped with cut up sandwich pepperoni.

Step 2: Cut up the sandwich pepperoni and spread it evenly across the dough.

Shredded cheeses on top of the pepperoni bits on the dough.

Step 3: Continue with shredded mozzarella and provolone cheese.

Pepperoni rolls dough rolled up into a long log.

Step 4: Roll up the dough on the long side, carefully tucking it as you go to keep it tight.

The dough after being rolled is cut into even pieces.

Step 5: Cut off about an inch or so of each end and discard. (The part that doesn't have any pepperoni and cheese.) Then cut the log into 12 even pieces. Cut it in half, then cut each section in half. Then cut each section into thirds.

Muffin tin sections brushed with melted butter.

Step 6: Brush a little butter into each muffin tin section.

Slice sections of the pepperoni roll placed into the muffin tin cut side up and then brushed with butter an garlic salt sprinkled on top.

Step 7: Place the pepperoni rolls cut side up into the muffin pan. Brush the tops with more butter and sprinkle garlic salt on top.

Pepperoni rolls after baking in the oven in the muffin pan.

Step 8: Bake at 425 degrees for 10 - 15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.

Twelve pepperoni rolls on a wire rack.

Remove and let the rolls cool on a wire rack.

You can serve them with a side of marinara sauce. However, we enjoyed eating them fresh from the oven just as they were.

Three pepperoni rolls on a black plate with one cut open facing out.

They were pretty good. Not exactly like the restaurant rolls. I suspect that they made them with fresh dough which is always better. Still, we liked them enough that I'd definitely make them again.

This definitely has my husband's name written all over it so I have to make it for him. One question - just wondering about the quantity of dough you used. The frozen dough I have seen in our stores is usually one pound. I would probably make my own dough but would like to know roughly the amount you used. Looking forward to trying this, hubby's going to love it!
