    DIY Window Frame Craft

    by Patti Estep · Feb 11, 2024

This DIY window frame decor has a farmhouse feel and can be displayed on the mantel as I have or hung anywhere in your home. It's quick and made with dollar store items for a fun and inexpensive piece of home decor.

Maybe you've seen this one before. I know I have but I have never tried it. Today I'm using dollar store canvases to create a pretty farmhouse style window frame to use on my spring mantel.

Six dollar store canvases in 8 x10 inch on a table.

    Supplies

    • Glue gun and glue sticks
    • Small flat screwdriver
    • Paintbrush
    • 6 (8 x 10) Canvases
    • White chalk paint or craft paint
    • 1 piece of a chenille stem/pipe cleaner (optional)
Hand using a small flat screwdriver to remove stables from the back of a canvas frame.

How to Make a Window Frame Decor Piece

Step 1: Remove the canvas from the wooden frames. I did this with a small flathead screw driver to pull out all the staples.

However, you could cut away the canvas leaving the staples in since you will only see the other side of the frame.

    8" x 10" wood frame.

This is what the frames look like once the canvas is removed. They only cost me $7.50 for 6 frames at Dollar Tree.

You may be able to find these at other craft stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They will cost more but may be of better quality. Just make sure that the frame looks like this one and that it doesn't have any support wood through the middle.

Three wood frames glued together side by side.

Step 2: Hot glue three of the frames together as shown above. Repeat with the other 3 frames.

Six wood frames glued together to make a larger window frame.

Step 3: Next, glue the sets of 3 together to make a 3 x 2 window pane frame.

Step 4: Paint the frames with white chalk paint or craft paint. You could also leave them unfinished, stain them, or choose a different paint color.

Here it is set in the center spot of our mantel. I hung a pretty wreath in the center made with grapevines and some spring green leaves.

Note: You could glue a small piece of a pipe cleaner to the back and hang it anywhere in the house.

Spring mantel with farmhouse window frame and wreath in the center followed by forsythia blooms, moss balls and candles. A fabric bird garland hangs below in front.

This was an easy and very inexpensive way to add some seasonal decor to our living room.  It looks great with my fabric birds, faux forsythia, and moss topiaries.

Such a welcome sight after a long winter.
