This pretty autumn wreath is created with real grapevines and faux berries made to look like bittersweet vines. The perfect fall wreath for your front door or fireplace mantel.
I really love the look of real bittersweet for fall decorating. However, it's hard to find. Occasionally you can find it at a floral shop but that's usually really expensive.
Also, many say it's invasive so you shouldn't encourage more growth by harvesting it. So when I saw some red and orange berry stems at the craft store I thought, maybe I could make a faux bittersweet wreath.
How to Make an Autumn Wreath with Faux Bittersweet
Supplies
- Grapevine wreath
- Berry Stems in red or orange
- Yellow crepe or tissue paper
- Green crepe or tissue paper
- White glue
Use yellow crepe paper or tissue paper to cover some of the berries as shown above.
Cut tissue paper leaves Add glue and wrap around stem
Then cut some leaves to glue on the stems in a few places.
The crepe paper easily twists around the stems. A drop of glue will keep it in place.
Here's a finished stem. It certainly doesn't look exactly like a bittersweet vine. However, I think it resembles its fall beauty and that's what I was going for. I made five stems like this and simply tucked them on a grapevine wreath. Then wrapped the bottom of the stem's wire onto the wreath.
Pretty, right? A sweet autumn wreath with faux bittersweet.
Lots of fall color with a pop of green. It's going to be the focal point of my fall mantel and looks nice next to these DIY gold mercury candle holders.
