DIY gift bags that are made with felt and embroidery thread are easy to whip up and add a little extra special touch to small gifts such as cards or money. Perfect for the holidays, birthdays, or any time of year.

Red, dark green and light green felt bags with contrasting stitching.

There's something about felt's soft texture that I like for crafting especially during the cold winter months. Today I'm sharing how a simple piece of felt can be used to create small (or any size) gift bags to add a gift card or a gift of money.

A 9 x 12 inch piece of hot pink felt.

How to Make Felt Gift Bags

I used one of these 9 x 12-inch pieces of felt but you can use anything in your stash.

A 9 x 12 inch piece of pink felt folded up from the bottom and a smaller fold at the top.

Fold up some of the felt from the bottom and a little on top.

A piece of felt folded and cut into three sections.

Then cut them into three pieces.

    Blanket stitch

Next, choose a coordinating or contrasting embroidery thread to sew up the sides and top edge. I used all 6 strands and a blanket stitch. The images above show the blanket stitch however, here is a video of how to create a blanket stitch to make it easier to see.
