Sweet Chex Mix - Addictive Snacking

    by Patti Estep · Oct 24, 2024

    Jump to Recipe

This sweet Chex mix recipe is perfect for snacking on to satisfy your sweet tooth and sugar cravings with just a touch of heat to counter and round out the dish.

Bowl of sweet chex mix snack blend.

Making your own snack mix is so much fun. I'm sure you've had many different kinds of Chex party mixes over the years, today I'm sharing one of mine.

I wanted to make a sweet Chex snack mix as I have a huge sweet tooth. However, I did add a little hot sauce (optional) that gives the snack, in my humble opinion, a nice rounded flavor.

Ingredient for the sweet Chex mix recipe including wheat and rice cereal, dark and white chocolate chips, butter, brown sugar, hot sauce, honey and baking soda.

How to Make a Sweet Chex Mix

    Ingredients

    • Chex cereal
    • Butter
    • Brown Sugar
    • Honey
    • Baking Soda
    • Dark Chocolate Chips
    • White Chocolate Chips
    • Tabasco or other Hot Sauce - optional

Note: I used wheat Chex and rice Chex cereal but you could also use corn Chex or any combination of all three.

Combine, butter, brown sugar, honey and hot sauce in a large pan on the stove with a rubber spatula.

Step 1. In a large saucepan combine butter, brown sugar, honey, and hot sauce. Bring to a simmer for 1 minute.

Note: You can omit the hot sauce but believe me when I say no one even noticed the heat. Also, you could add a little salt here but since I was using salted butter I did not.

Adding in baking soda makes the mixture foam.

Step 2. Add baking soda (it will foam up) to the sauce. The baking soda creates a reaction to make the sauce harden and keeps the cereal crispy.

Coating the cereals with the liquid sauce with a rubber spatula.

Step 3. Add the cereal and mix well. Continue to stir and cook for 30 seconds.

Spreading out the coated cereal onto a parchment lined baking pan spreading with a spatula.

Step 4. Spread your Chex mix out on some parchment paper covering a baking sheet and allow it to cool slightly.

Drizzling white chocolate onto the cereal mix with a spoon of melted white chocolate.

Step 5. While the cereal mix is cooling melt dark chocolate and white chocolate chips separately. Then use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate all over.

The finished sweet Chex mix snack recipe cooling.

Step 6. Let the mixture sit until it is totally cool.

Break it up into smaller pieces and serve it in a large bowl. Or place it in an airtight container for future munching.
