This yummy blue cheese puff pastry recipe is easy to create and makes the perfect appetizer for any party or get-together.
Puff pastry is so easy to work with and it makes delicious appetizers. I wanted to make a spiral with it to offer guests as a pre-dinner appetizer.
How to Make a Blue Cheese Puff Pastry Spiral
After you thaw out the puff pastry layer on your favorite ingredients. I wanted to use blue cheese and figs because I love that combination. However, I could not find fresh figs so I opted for fig jam.
The next layer was crumbled blue cheese and then I added some chopped pecans for more flavor and texture.
Next, roll up the pastry dough from one end.
Cut it half lengthwise. If necessary, lightly pinch the open edges closed.
Take one and gently pull and twist the pastry. Then place it in a spiral shape on a parchment lined baking sheet. (see above)
Continue with the second cut pastry dough and continue the spiral.
Then repeat the steps with a second piece of puff pastry continuing to add to the spiral pinching the ends together.
Then brush the top with some cream or an egg wash.
Now you are ready to bake the stuffed puff pastry in the oven.
Let it bake for 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Set this beautiful spiral out for your friends and allow them to have a bite by either pulling off or cutting a piece and enjoy.

Can't wait to make this. Do you think, covered but unbrushed with egg wash, this would keep over night in the refrigerator to be baked the next day?
Patti Estep
Bob, I have never tried it. However, If you cover it well and leave off the egg wash it might be okay. I'm afraid if you wait too long the pastry will break down and get sticky.

I really like the sound of this as printed, as well as your suggestions of other cheese/herbs/nuts. We have friends over frequently for dinner and I am always looking for something a little different to serve as an appetizer - this will be perfect! I have a question - roughly how big was the pastry you rolled out (or alternatively, how thick was the sheet once rolled? When I first looked at the pictures, I thought it was phyllo!) I live in Canada and I don't think we have the Pepperidge Farm variety of puff pastry but there are other brands that would be a suitable equivalent.
Patti Estep
Beverly, their site says each sheet is 9.75 x 10.5 x 3/16 inches. I only rolled them out slightly and used both sheets to make the coil. It's a pretty forgiving recipe so I don't think you'll have much trouble and your friends will love it.

This looks delicious. Thanks for sharing!
Do you think it can be made with Feta cheese?
Patti Estep
Thanks Dominique. And yes, feta would be delicious!
